I have often wondered about changing my name. My family name was changed by my grandfather and it would be really nice to go back to having the original name instead.

The original name has a great history, is a quite unusual name and I am proud to be part of that family. I have therefore been looking in to the rules and regulations with regards to uk name change. It seems like it can be quite a simple process. It needs to be changed by Deed Poll if you want it to be legally recognised as your name. Of course many people go by nicknames and things like that but they are not officially known by them. I want to show my pride in my family heritage by changing it legally and therefore going through this process.

I did worry that it would be complicated but actually there is an online form so you do not even have to arrange to meet with someone. It is very simple to just register on the website and give some details. They will then send you out all of the relevant documents which once completed and signed in the presence of a suitable witness can be returned for processing. As soon as they send you back the documents you can start changing your name on all your official papers and things like that, in the same way that youw oudl when you change you name getting married. I am so pleased that it is such a simple process and have therefore pretty much decided that I will go ahead and do it. I am looking forward to feeling like I am really a part of my family and being able to show off my new name and tell people about my heritage.
